Flora Castiglia
Flora Castiglia was born in 1991 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From childhood, she was introduced to art by her artist mother, whose art studio was the heart of the home. This immersion in a creative environment strongly influenced her practice and led her to imagine her own artistic language very early on. Flora began by illustrating music album covers. This experience was foundational and imbued her work with a form of "musicality," both in form and composition. Over the years, Flora refined her expression, notably through the development of exploded perspectives, the use of contrasting colors that were both muted and bright, and the recurrence of her motifs. The artist has created her own pictorial language, mixing geometric shapes and natural subjects. She plays with the materiality of her works, giving free rein to the spontaneity of gesture and splashes. Some of her paintings are adorned with words or letters, resembling a personal diary. Beneath the dreamlike and contemplative aspect lies a greater mystery, encouraging the viewer to decode the meanings hidden beneath the layers of paint and patterns. As Flora likes to say, "Nothing has to be seen as it is. Encrypted information has to be decoded. Meaning is underneath." During the URBANITY fair in Madrid, the artist received an acquisition award from the BASSAT Foundation, a true recognition for her work.
