Glenn Dane
Originally from Belfast, Glenn Dane lives and works in Cambridgeshire, UK, where he sculpts unique objects from locally sourced, sustainably harvested wood. He works with green, still-damp wood, adapting to the unpredictable movements that occur during the drying process: warping, cracking, settling… Each piece evolves organically, escaping initial control and thus preserving its unique character. Knots, fissures, and growth marks bear witness to the passage of time. To finish his sculptures, he uses iron oxides, handcrafted dyes and pigments extracted from local plants such as oak, walnut, poppy, and nettle, before nourishing them with linseed oil. His creations explore wood as a living material, a bearer of memory, and the natural processes that leave indelible imprints of their place of origin.
