Laurence Briat
Originally from Valence, Laurence Briat lives and works near Montpellier. After training at the Beaux-Arts in Marseille, she gained experience in the artistic field during numerous apprenticeships and advanced training courses in France and abroad, including glass in California and engraving in Italy. After practicing painting, drawing and engraving for a long time, she now devotes herself to collages, which she often creates with papers weathered by time. Time, memory and erasure are recurring themes in her work. Laurence Briat is interested in the unpredictable way in which images are constructed and their power of suggestion. The incompleteness of the torn papers refers us to our own imaginations and "acts as the beginnings of stories inviting the viewer to confront their own experiences and emotions".
