Eiro Block, sculpture by Yasmin Bawa

Yasmin Bawa is an artist and sculptor nourished by a childhood shared between California and Edinburgh. After studying fashion, she trained in design in Berlin. She developed a sculptural practice inspired by the careful observation of space, handwork, and natural materials. Recently settled in Ardèche, she lives and creates in harmony with nature, surrounded by peaceful landscapes of rivers and mountains. Her works, composed entirely of natural materials, take shape through a slow and meditative process, combining ancestral techniques and ecological commitment. Each sculpture is constructed from a natural composite of hemp and lime, chosen for its strength, lightness, and sustainable properties. Several layers of lime plaster are applied to this base, carefully smoothed to achieve a soft, homogeneous, and refined surface. The final layer, a specially formulated lime plaster, is polished using the traditional Moroccan Tadelakt technique. Guided by nature, mythology, and science, Yasmin explores notions of identity and the relationship to life. Her sculptures and totems, with their organic curves, fluid lines, and tactile textures, embody a sensitive and sustainable craftsmanship, at the intersection of art, matter, and reflection.
