MAGMA 1, 2 and 3, by Charlotte Culot

Charlotte Culot is a Belgian artist born in 1964 into a family of artists. Drawing quickly became central to her world. Alongside her studies in archaeology and art history, she discovered photography and developed a keen eye for surfaces, structures, and colours. She began painting in the 1990s, primarily using brown kraft paper, gouaches, pigments, and pastels. Her interest in materials and textures gradually led her to collage techniques, while colour became the structural element of her artistic exploration. Her work then evolved towards a form of sensitive abstraction. Since the 1990s, Charlotte Culot has regularly exhibited in Europe and the United States. In 2022, she co-founded Maison Rhizomes, dedicated to textile art, with Hannah Vagedes. In collaboration with artists and traditional workshops in Nepal and India, Maison Rhizomes develops woven pieces and rugs using natural fibres and ancestral techniques. Colour, material, and composition thus extend her pictorial research into the textile world.
