Sarah Z Short is an American artist from Rhode Island specializing in collage. Before dedicating herself fully to creation, Sarah taught English in middle school. This pedagogical experience still permeates her practice today, weaving a deep connection between words and the multiple layers of meaning that animate her works. Her pieces come to life from old materials saved from oblivion. These sometimes include worn book covers, yellowed pages, or discarded papers. Through the subtle interplay of revealing, masking, and layering, she writes new stories. She enriches her compositions with a unique typography technique, achieved by printing with antique wooden type, transforming letters into visual rhythms and abstract forms. Through her art, Sarah Z Short gives a second life to what seemed lost, creating a poetic dialogue between past and present.
