Sarah Z Short is an American artist from Rhode Island, specializing in collage. Before dedicating herself fully to creation, Sarah taught English at a junior high school. This teaching experience still permeates her practice today, weaving a deep connection between words and the multiple layers of meaning that animate her works. These come to life from old materials saved from oblivion. These are sometimes worn book covers, yellowed pages, or discarded papers. Through the subtle interplay of revealing, masking, and layering, she writes new stories. She enriches her compositions with a unique typography technique, obtained by printing ancient wooden characters, transforming letters into visual rhythms and abstract forms. Through her art, Sarah Z Short gives a second life to what seemed lost, creating a poetic dialogue between past and present.
