Sarah Z Short is an American artist from Rhode Island who specializes in collage. Before dedicating herself fully to creation, Sarah taught English at a middle school. This teaching experience still permeates her practice today, weaving a deep connection between words and the multiple layers of meaning that animate her works. Her works come to life from old materials salvaged from oblivion. These are sometimes worn book covers, yellowed pages, or discarded papers. Through the subtle interplay of revelation, masking, and superimposition, she writes new stories. She enriches her compositions with a unique typographic technique, achieved by printing old wooden characters, transforming letters into visual rhythms and abstract forms. Through her art, Sarah Z Short gives a second life to what seemed lost, creating a poetic dialogue between the past and the present.
